Delivering a Marriage Application in Atlanta

I delivered a marriage application for a dear friend. Serving as an officiant, celebrating two people’s love for each other, is one of the most beautiful experiences. Feeling incredibly grateful.

Happy to share that everyone at the courthouse was welcoming, too. The clerk said, “Congratulations!” My role, officiant not bride, was quickly clarified, but that comment feels so sweet given the history of disability and marriage. There are still many barriers facing disabled people who wish to marry, from the risk of losing critical services to society outright blocking marriages (Helen Keller’s family prevented her from tying the knot). So it’s heartwarming to know there is a courthouse clerk in Georgia who reacts to a disabled woman holding a marriage application with, “Congratulations!”

May love, in all its forms, become more accessible around the world!
