Blind Australians campaigned for Vision Australia to open recruitment for their CEO position. Considering job applicants both inside and outside the agency would increase the opportunity for Vision Australia to hire their very first CEO who is blind. Hundreds of people signed the petition, and Vision Australia demonstrated true leadership by listening to blind people and opening recruitment! Congratulations to blind campaigners and their allies! Your success, and Vision Australia’s decision to embrace change, is a role model for disability advocates around the world.
Vision Australia did something remarkable with my radio interview, too. Host Peter Greco provides you with three choices: listen to the podcast at a faster speed with pauses edited out, listen to the podcast at a slower pace with natural pauses, or read the transcript. However you choose to engage, I think you’ll enjoy our discussion of disability leadership and my travels through Australia.
My friend Lainey Feingold introduced me to Gisele Mesnage, an accessibility advocate, and Charissa Ramirez, a digital accessibility consultant at Vision Australia. Charissa and Gisele welcomed me to Australia with a delicious lunch at a beautiful garden, and afterwards asked Peter to interview me on Vision Australia’s radio and podcast. Thank you Lainey, Charissa, Gisele, and Peter!
